Eloise D. Bahrmasel

Ellie Bahrmasel has been described as a "civic catalyst" for her ability to galvanize people around issues. She works tirelessly for women's rights and education. She co-founded the PowerPump Salon, recently recognized by Sheryl Sandberg for its efforts to empower and advance women from all industries. She recently worked as senior specialist of external affairs for Comcast and spent three years prior working for Mayor Rahm Emanuel, including in his office as project manager for the chief operating officer.

Ellie is involved in too many organizations for us to name them all, but here goes: Chair of the Chicago Scholars Associate Board; co-chair of the YWCA of Metropolitan Chicago Future Leaders Council; a Mikva Challenge Emerging Leaders board member; StartingBloc Social Innovation Fellow; and a member of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Emerging Leaders Board. She also holds a municipally elected position on the John C. Coonley Elementary Local School Council, volunteers with Working in the Schools and will be joining the Schusterman Foundation for their REALITY Global Social Innovation Fellowship this summer. Phew!

Describe yourself in 10 words or less:

Lover of life, people and Chicago; ideator, communicator, facilitator + connector.

How do you Jew in Chicago?

I try to reflect the value of tikkun olam in all that I do. Great things can be done to heal the world when we invest in it together. And of course, I am constantly debating the best places for good bagels and pastrami in the metro area with fellow Jewish deli enthusiasts. (Of course the answer is New York Bagel + Bialy for lox and a schmear, Kaufmann's for anything that gets covered in mustard!)

Me in 10 years:

Thriving and creating in Chicago with my amazing husband Matt and my 17 year old schnoodle pup, George. Perhaps with a human child or two to keep my fur baby young.
