Sarah Weisberg Gaines' best advice is to do a mitzvah a day -- every day -- and she's walking the walk. As the co-director of the
Dr. Sue Weisberg Children's Library,
founded in memory of her mother, Sarah is providing the community with a place for Jewish learning, growth, and knowledge.
At the library, Sarah has created a suite of activities and programming that helps connect young Jewish families with Jewish values and traditions, teaching children and parents who may otherwise not have been exposed to such traditions what it means to be Jewish.
Sarah is all-around deeply invested in education. She sits on the pre-school committee at North Suburban Synagogue Beth El in Highland Park and is an elementary school teacher. She's even been nominated for a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and Leadership.

A JEW WHO INSPIRES YOU:
I'm surrounded by inspirational Jews. From our rabbi and his wife, Rabbi and Rebbetzin Schanowitz, who are not just religious leaders but provide such amazing community and emotional support. To a person I never met, Jerry Lewis, who reached outside the Jewish community by dedicating his adult life to finding a cure for muscular dystrophy. And, of course, my mom, who even years after her passing continues to inspire families through her writings and the love and support she gave to families as a beloved pediatrician, mother and friend. She was a selfless person who was dedicated to her patients and their families in countless ways. She cared for them. She guided them. She mentored them. She felt privileged to be able to care for her “angels” as she lovingly referred to them. Her deep sense of responsibility led her to create an office in our home, as well as make house calls to ensure no parent “ever went to sleep at night worried about their child.” Growing up with these values is the source of my inspiration in life.
